I am a registered Social Worker with five years’ experience of assessing mental capacity in line with The Mental Capacity Act (2005); having worked within a collaborative multi-disciplinary team, within an NHS setting and now subsequently with TSF Consultants.
I have specialised experience in working with adults with mental health conditions, such as dementia, schizophrenia, personality disorder, bipolar disorder and clinical depression as well as neurodegenerative conditions linked to Alzheimer’s such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. I am currently working with a local authority Independent Living Team who promote and encourage remaining at home for as long as possible within the community.
As part of my NHS and local authority work, I am regularly involved in assessing mental capacity for decisions involving mainly the acceptance of health and social care and financial management. In my current role, as a Specialist Mental Capacity Assessor with TSF Consultancy I have further developed my experience so that I am proficient at assessing mental capacity for a broader range of decision making.
I am passionate about what I do. I champion a holistic approach, looking at the whole person not just the diagnosis or condition. I find, allowing people to have a voice and ultimately promoting empowerment extremely rewarding and ultimately why I trained as a Social Worker. Now specialising in mental capacity assessing allows me to further promote empowerment and facilitate complex decision making in the best interest of the individual.
